Shel Miller is a Collaborative Executive Divorce Coach, Child Specialist, Parenting Coordinator, and Psychologist in the Boston area.  For his website I customized a previously purchased website template to fit his needs, and then completely converted the design and layout into a custom Wordpress theme.  The resulting Wordpress site maintains all the design and typographical elements of the original design, and allows him to maintain and edit all of the site’s content in the back-end administrative panel.  Other features include an “inspirational quotes” section that self-loads new random quotes on a click, and allows for content management in the admin panel; custom header photos that can be controlled by the admin to correspond to any page or post; custom social media integration; back-end management of downloads made available to visitors; and customized category archive pages. Darren Miller Comedy is my alternate website featuring my blog and work as a comedian in New York.  On this site you can see all the projects I’ve worked on in comedy, and many of the videos I’ve created, acted in, and/or written.  I designed this site using a pre-existing Wordpress theme, customized to allow for my Tumblr blog to be integrated as the website’s front page.  The embedded Tumblr blog and Wordpress portfolio blog run simultaneously on the site to allow me to use Tumblr’s blogging engine for blogging and news updates, and Wordpress’ blogging engine to update and manage my portfolio.  (visit site)

Find He-Man is the real-life pursuit of a fictional superhero in Manhattan.  I and other founders, editors, and writers of this site have tagged an actual man who roams the streets of Manhattan shirtless as “He-Man.”  Our users have tracked his whereabouts and sent in their photos, videos, and information regarding the location of their He-Man Sighting.  We have fictionalized these actual sightings into a comedic weblog of He-Man’s life on the streets.  The site uses a modified Wordpress theme and a map plugin that allows users to plot and track He-Man sightings on a map of New York.

Melge Magazine is a collective of writers, comedians, musicians, and visual artists living in New York.  We all create original content, including writing, visual art, music, and video.  I am a co-creator of the project, and currently edit, market, and administer the website.  I designed the site using a pre-existing tumblr theme, modified to include artists’ photos and website links to successfully attribute each post to its author, and promote the concept of the collective.  (visit site)

I Hate My 9 to 5 is a website that allows anyone to anonymously post work-related stories, and read fun, ridiculous, and sometimes horrifying stories from desks all over the world.  I designed this site using the Drupal content management system as the back-end.  I created a new template design (based on a pre-existing one), and utilized customized views that allow viewers to see monthly archives as well as posts sorted by rating.  Users can post without creating any kind of account, and anonymously comment on and rate other posts as well.  A CAPTCHA system prevents spammers from posting, and the back-end provides an area where the moderator can log-in and approve of messages before they are published.  I have also worked to seamlessly integrate the site with a variety of social media platforms.

After some time, I decided to revamp the site using a wordpress core, and a few hacks that allowed for anonymous posting.  The site is now redesigned and includes all the same features, plus deeper social media integration.  In addition, I restructured the site to work in a magazine-like format, allowing for multiple sections that enhance the content features. (visit site)

The Colonialist was a blog and web magazine dedicated to original humor and student life at The George Washington University.  I was a Co-Founder and contributing editor for the website.  I customized a Wordpress theme for the design, and manipulated the Wordpress structure to allow for customized author-specific archives and pages, as well as “sub-blogs.”  I also used a variety of Wordpress plugins to enhance the user experience on the site, and integrate the site seamlessly with various social media applications.  (visit site)

Comedy is a sketch, video, and improv comedy group I co-founded in New York.  I designed the logo, and set up the website using a customized Wordpress theme.  The site includes a blog for news updates, About and Contact pages, a page featuring the groups videos, and a page to show the groups upcoming show dates and information.  The Wordpress back-end allows the administrator to manage and maintain everything, including a back-end plugin to manage show dates, venues, and information.
